Doing crafts is a very important part in developing a kid’s motor skills as well as building the kids self esteem and stimulating the kid’s imagination. This is the reason why I am including sample kids crafts in this website that is dedicated to homeschooling. I hope you’ll find these kids crafts handy and that these kids’ crafts will give you hours op pleasure. Remember that for safety’s sake all kids’ crafts should be done with adult supervision.

Polka Dot Easter Flowerpots Kids Craft

These lovely flowerpots are always in bloom, even during very bad and cold weather. Bring a little sunshine into you Easter decorations with this fun and easy kids crafts.

Here are the supplies you will need:

  • A terra-cotta pot for every pot you want to make (1 for each) of about 3 inches in diameter. (You can of course use larger ones if you do not intend using them as table decorations)
  • Assorted buttons of different shapes and colors to use for the flowers (the holes in the buttons need to be large enough to thread the floral wire through)
  • Floral foam
  • Floral tape
  • Floral wire
  • Acrylic paint – in the colors you want to use
  • Kitchen knife
  • A black permanent marker
  • Fine artificial grass or anything in pastel colors that can be used to place around the flowers in the pot.
  • A tape measure
  • A sponge brush
  • Craft glue
  • Artificial leaves of a suitable size. Silk leaves are probably the best.
  • Crafts scissors
  • A pencil with an eraser

This is what you need to do:

  1. Start by painting you flower pot. Using your sponge brush paint your pots in the desired color with your acrylic paint and let it dry for at least 30 minutes while you make your “flowers”
  2. Taking one of the buttons, thread a piece of the floral wire, that needs to be long enough to serve as the stem of the flowers, through one of the holes from the bottom and then back again through another hole from the top to the button. You have now secured one of your “Flowers” to the floral wire.
  3. Now you have to bring the ends of the floral wire together and make them even.
  4. In order to hold the “flower” in place you have to twist the wire, directly under the button, several times.
  5. Now you have to cut the wire with you craft scissors into the correct length. If you are using the 3 inch pot the correct length will be about 5 inches.
  6. To start forming your stem you have to twist the floral tape tightly around the wire for about 1 inch. After 1 inch hold the stem of one of your leaves against the florist wire and twist the florist tape around it to secure it to the stem.
  7. Now you can keep on twisting the florist tape around your stem until it is fully covered, cut of any excess tape left over.
  8. You have now completed one of your flowers.

  1. Repeat these steps until you have the desired amount of flowers.
  2. When your pots are dry it is time to start with the decorations. Use your pencil with the eraser to make your polka dots. Dip your pencil’s desired cooler paint and then press it against the pot to make a dot.
  3. Now you have to let your pots dry again for at least 30 minutes.
  4. When your pots are all dry, you can write an Easter message on the rims using your marker.
  5. Using your kitchen knife (let an adult help) cut a piece of florist foam to fit into your pots.
  6. Place the foam into your opt and glue your “Grass” onto it. You have to make sure your “Grass” sticks our above the rim of your pot otherwise it will not cover your florist foam properly and it will look skimpy.
  7. Now you have to arrange your flowers and leaves in the pot, making sure they look nice and full.

Well, there you have your lovely flower pots to use as part of your Easter decorations.  As you can see, with the help of an adult, this kids craft is a really satisfying craft for kids as they love doing a craft that can actually be used. This kids craft will make your Easter decorations fun for everyone.

Enjoy your kids’ crafts.
